Lehigh opens its season on Saturday when the Mountain Hawks host Delaware at the Ulrich Sports Complex beginning at 1:00. Lehigh is coming off of a season that saw it finish 5-9 and 2-4 in Patriot League action. The Mountain Hawks return 15 letterwinners in 2004, including nine of 11 starters, and welcome in a very deep and athletic freshman unit that will be looked upon to contribute right from the start.
On the offensive end, Lehigh will be relying on junior Andrew Lucas to provide the scoring punch after netting 21 goals a season ago, tops among returning players. Junior Greg Morin was the top assist man for the Mountain Hawks a year ago with 24, and he also chipped in nine goals. The defensive unit will be led by a pair of seniors, in Chip Freeman and Evan Philcox, and in goal, junior Tom Ellis returns this season after a year that saw him notch 136 saves in 2003.
Delaware arrives in Bethlehem with one game, and a win at that, under its belt. The Blue Hens defeated St. Joe’s on February 14 in Philadelphia by a count of 8-7. Leading the charge on the offensive side were Matt Alrich and Joe Trentzsch with two goals apiece.
