Lehigh falls to Colgate in Patriot League title game

The teams played a scoreless first half with the Raiders out shooting the Mountain Hawks 7-0. Lehigh was able to mount more of an attack early in the second half and dodged a bullet when an apparent Franny Iacuzzi goal in the 63rd minute was nullified by a handball.
“We came out a lot stronger in the second half,” said coach Manny Oudin. “We had our chances and were unable to capitalize.”
Colgate broke the deadlock 75 minutes in when Kelly Kuss found the back of the net off of Kelly Niland’s corner kick.
“We knew they were dangerous on restarts,” Oudin said. “If you give them enough of those chances, they’re bound to capitalize.”
The Raiders would add a fluke insurance goal in the 81st minute when Kuss played a ball towards the Lehigh goal that somehow sailed over keeper Erin Iwaskiewicz and into the back of the net. Kuss, a junior was named Tournament MVP.
Iwaskiewicz made six saves for the Mountain Hawks who were out shot 15-10 for the match. Lehigh was forced to play without two of their top defenders in the second half, as freshman Michaela Pawlewicz left the game with illness and senior Shannon Trexler injured her leg.
