Lehigh brings home hardware, preps for tournament

For the second year in a row Lehigh brought home three of the league’s top honors. Sophomore midfielder Gina Lewandowski followed up her 2003 Rookie of the Year Campaign by being named Offensive Player of the Year. Senior goalkeeper Erin Iwaskiewicz, the two-time defending Defensive Player of the Year was named Goalkeeper of the Year, a new honor handed out this season. For the second year in a row, head coach Manny Oudin was named Coach of the Year.
Colgate received the other two major awards. Kellen Kroll was honored as Defensive Player of the Year and Franny Iacuzzi was named Rookie of the Year.
The Patriot League also announced its All-League teams Thursday. Iwaskiewicz was selected to the first team for the third consecutive year, Lewandowski for the second. They are joined on the first team by senior Jocelyn Helwig, who is also making her second consecutive first team. Freshman defender Michaela Pawlewicz capped off a strong rookie season by being named to the All-Patriot League second team.
“The players who were recognized are all well-deserving,” said two-time Coach of the Year Manny Oudin. “They all had very good years and it was good to see the other coaches recognize their effort and importance to our program.”
Lewandowski has started every game in two seasons for the Mountain Hawks. Her 13 goals this season are the second highest single season total in team history and were good for third best in the Patriot League. Five of her 13 tallies this year were game-winners, which set a new school record. This season, she moved into second place on the Lehigh career scoring list with 25 career goals and 52 points.
Iwaskiewicz played every minute of every game between in goal for Lehigh this season. She led the Patriot League with seven shutouts and posted a 1.20 goals against average.
One of the Mountain Hawks’ most reliable playmakers Helwig makes a return trip to the All-Patriot League first team after notching a team best nine assists, good for second in the league and just one shy of the Lehigh single season record. She has 25 helpers for her career and needs just one to tie Dia Johnson for the school’s career record.
Pawlewicz scored one goal during the regular season, but was recognized for her outstanding play on the Mountain Hawks back line, a unit that posted seven shutouts on the season and allowed only seven goals in Patriot League play, the second lowest in the league.
“Michaela had never played as a defender before this season,” Oudin said. “She stepped in back there and has done a great job for our team.”
