Lehigh defeats Lafayette 4-2, qualifies for tournament

The two teams would battle tightly in the second stanza, with neither squad able to score in the first 13 minutes. That would all change though when junior Maureen Harrington took a pass from Kuenne off of a penalty corner at the 48:00 minute mark and snuck it in the back of the net to put Lehigh in front 3-2. Smith would then seal the game as the dazzling freshman scored her second goal of the evening unassisted with 14 minutes left in the contest.
Senior Jeanine Hoff was brilliant in the cage for Lehigh all evening stopping ten Lafayette shots in 70 minutes of action.
“We worked so hard this season to put ourselves in this position and all of our hard work paid off tonight,” said an elated Julie Mazer after the game. “The girls have been working for this all season and it’s just very gratifying to see them rewarded for their dedication.”
Lehigh will be back in action on Saturday, November 6 when the Mountain Hawks play top-seeded American in the first round of the Patriot League Tournament at 11 am. The tournament will be hosted in Hamilton, New York by Colgate University. All of the Mountain Hawks postseason games will be broadcast live on Lehigh’s website at lehighsports.com.
