Former Lehigh wrestler wins military gold

Jason Kutz ’96 recently claimed a gold medal in freestyle wrestling at the International Military Sports Council’s World Military Wrestling Championships (August 2-10) in Istanbul, Turkey. Kutz is a member of the U.S. Army team, based in Fort Carson, Colorado.
Kutz, wrestling at 132 lbs., won four matches on the way to the title. He opened up with an 11-0 technical fall over Saeed Galat of Qatar, then scored a 7-2 win over Daniel Wilde of Germany. In the semis, Kutz won a disputed match as he edged Tevkit Odabisi of Turkey, 6-5, settling for fewer points than his coaches counted. In the finals, Kutz pinned Nazim Alidjanov of Azerbijian in 4:23.
Kutz enjoyed a stellar career while at Lehigh, winning an EIWA title at 126 lbs. as a senior in 1996. Also, he put together a streak of 24 straight dual meet wins over the course of his last three years, and also took 24 straight wins overall during a 33-4 senior campaign.
