Shreve named new women's coach

Bethlehem, PA – The athletics department has announced that Jim Shreve will serve the year as head women’s lacrosse coach at Lehigh. Shreve is very familiar with the Lehigh lacrosse programs, having served as an assistant on the men’s team for the past seven seasons. During his time with the men, Shreve coached the specialty positions, including goalies and face-off middies and in previous seasons, he specialized with the man-up team. His 2000 man-up unit finished fourth in the country in scoring percentage. Shreve replaces Judy Baxter who resigned to spend more time with her family in Minnesota.
     

Shreve attended Syracuse where he played four years of midfield for Roy Simmons Jr. He graduated in 1973 with a degree in Recreational Management. He went on to do graduate work at Cortland State College from 1974-1975, where he also served as an assistant lacrosse coach for two seasons and an assistant football coach for one season.
     

Prior to coming to Lehigh he was the head lacrosse coach at Binghamton (NY) High where he taught and coached for 11 seasons. He also developed and operated his own fitness club business while living in Binghamton.
     

Shreve brings extensive coaching experience to the Mountain Hawks. He has been involved with a championship team at every level of lacrosse, playing on a high school championship team at Fayetteville-Manlius (NY), and coaching in three championship programs. The first was during two years at Cortland State when Cortland won the National Championship in 1975. The next was in 1996 when he became one of four coaches selected by the National Interscholastic Lacrosse Association to coach the Under-19 USA World Team. The team traveled to Japan for the World Games where it defeated Australia in the final game to win the World Championship. Lastly, Shreve was serving as assistant coach at Lehigh during the 1999 season when the Mountain Hawks last captured the Patriot League Championship.
     

The Shreve family resides in Center Valley, Pa. Shreve and his wife have four children: Justin a 1996 graduate and former midfielder for the University of Pennsylvania; Kathryn, who currently attends Columbia Graduate School; Suzanne, who graduated from West Virginia University and currently works in North Carolina; and Vanessa, a sophomore dance major at Florida State University.
