Bethlehem, PA – Six high school All-Americans highlight a talented group of newcomers that will join the Lehigh men’s lacrosse program, head coach Chris Wakely has announced. In all, twenty players join the team in hopes of making an impact in the highly competitive Patriot League. Two freshmen defenders earned national accolades at the high school level. Kevin Donlan (Wyckoff, N.J.) earned All-American and All-State recognition while playing at Ramapo High School in New Jersey, and Joe Hamil earned similar honors for Austin High School in Austin, Texas. Those two, along with four other defenders come to Bethlehem in hopes of strengthening a defense that should be bolstered by the return of several key players, but must replace the 79 ground balls recorded by Scott Carpenter ’03. Midfielder Colin Mistele (Ross, Calif./San Francisco University HS) should make an immediate impact on the Mountain Hawks’ play, as he was twice honored as an All-American. Mistele is one of seven new Lehigh midfielders in camp who look to make an impact on Lehigh’s transition game in 2004. On the offensive side, David Walsh (Glenside, Pa./Germantown Academy), Stephen Marino (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga), Blake Best (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park), and Andrew Mastromanaco (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) lead a group of six new attackers. Walsh was a two-time All-American, and Marino also earned high school All-American honors. Meanwhile, Best was named the Anne Arundel County Player of the Year, and Mastromanaco was a two-time all-state selection. This talent-laden group of attackmen face the immediate challenge of replacing Tony Lowe ’03 in finding the back of the net. Lowe led the nation in goals scored a season ago. Lehigh’s efforts in goal will be bolstered by two new additions in 2004. Paul Bottinelli (Wyckoff, N.J./Bergen Catholic) and Dusty Granet (Lawrence, N.Y./Lawrence) come to Lehigh in replacing Bill Guglielmo ’03. They will battle junior Tom Ellis for time in goal. Ellis saw action in 13 games a season ago. "This is a great class that will play an integral part in both the short term and long term future of the program," said head coach Chris Wakely, set to enter his third season. "We are eagerly awaiting their arrival so we can officially welcome them to the program and start preparing for next season." Lehigh opens its 2004 campaign on February 21 when the Mountain Hawks host Delaware at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Lehigh’s incoming recruiting class:
