Lehigh raided by Colgate

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh could not overcome a scoreless second period and fell to Colgate 11-6 on Saturday evening at the Ulrich Sports Complex. The loss drops Lehigh to 4-7 overall and 1-3 in the Patriot League. Lehigh trailed only 2-1 after the first 15:00, thanks to senior Tony Lowe’s first of two goals on the day. The second period did not go as well for the Mountain Hawks, as Colgate scored four times while keeping Lehigh off the scoreboard, to take a 6-1 advantage into halftime. After falling behind 7-1 at the start of the third period, the Mountain Hawks started a comeback bid. Lehigh scored five of the game’s final seven goals, but it was not enough, as Colgate took home the 11-6 league win. Lowe was the Mountain Hawks only multiple goal scorer, and added Lehigh’s only assist, for three points. Also scoring goals for Lehigh were sophomore Greg Morin and freshmen Mike McConnell, Mike Titus, and Connor McCarthy. Another freshman, Jeff King, led the Mountain Hawks with five ground balls. Sophomore Tom Ellis played all 60:00 in goal, making seven saves. "We just could not overcome that second period," head coach Chris Wakely. "Colgate is a very athletic team and they outplayed us tonight." Colgate’s attack was the epitome of balance, as ten different players scored the Raiders’ eleven goals. Nick Gerken scored back-to-back goals in the third period and added an assist to lead offense. Adam Hersham had five ground balls and was 6-7 on face offs. Andrew Jarolimek made 13 saves in cage for the Raiders. The loss was Lehigh’s third straight and sixth in its last seven games. The Mountain Hawks will try to get back into the win column on Tuesday, when Pennsylvania visits the Ulrich Sports Complex for a 7:00 non-league contest.
