Mountain Hawks fall in Patriot League opener

Geneva, NY – Hobart ran out to a three goal lead early on, and Lehigh was unable to recover as the Statesmen spoiled the Mountain Hawks’ Patriot League opener with a 9-4 win on Saturday afternoon. The loss – Lehigh’s third straight – drops the Mountain Hawks to 3-4 overall (0-1 Patriot League), while the Statesmen improve to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in league play. Trailing 3-0 early in the second quarter, Lehigh dented the scoreboard as sophomore Andrew Lucas found the back of the net on a feed from Kurt Gerry to make the score 3-1 just 18 seconds into the second period. Senior Tony Lowe later scored in the second as well, but Hobart took a 6-2 lead into halftime. In the second half, Lehigh buckled down defensively, but were unable to trim the deficit, as Hobart went on to the five goal victory. Lowe and Gerry paced Lehigh with two points apiece (a goal and an assist). John Bogosian led all scorers, as the Statesman scored four goals and added an assist in the win. Hobart controlled the draws all afternoon, as the Statesmen won 12 of 17 face offs. Hobart also recorded 51 ground balls – including 26 in the second half en route to the win. Lehigh had 13 in the second 30 minutes, and 30 during the contest. Lehigh looks to turn things around next week, as the Mountain Hawks visit Holy Cross.
