Princeton, NJ – Lehigh opened up its 2001-02 campaign with a visit to Princeton in a non-league match-up. The Tigers (1-0) jumped out early, and never looked back in a 76-61 win over Lehigh (0-1). Princeton started out on fire with freshman Karen Bolster making 3 three-pointers within the first three minutes of the contest. Princeton grabbed an 18-10 lead with 10 minutes to play in the half, and that seemed to be the trend for the game. Lehigh did not give in, and picked up the pace defensively, forcing several turnovers. Lehigh’s success at the free throw line and sophomore Jana Ransom’s five first half field goals kept the Mountain Hawks within striking distance. At the half, Lehigh was down 25 to 32. In the second half, Princeton came out on fire once again. Lehigh committed several turnovers and once again couldn’t seem to keep up offensively. Princeton continued to dominate the game, despite Anne Tierney and Cat Nicholson’s efforts. Tierney came out of the game with 14 points. Nicholson made two three-pointers in the second half and ended the game with three field goals and 6-8 from the free throw line. Jana Ransom poured in 13 in a starting role for Lehigh. Princeton was paced by Bolster, who finished having made 8 field goals, 7 of which were three-pointers. She scored a game-high 24. Lehigh’s pressure D forced some Tiger mistakes, and the Mountain Hawks tried to rally, but their efforts came up short. Princeton cruised to the victory, in the debut of head coach Richard Barron. The Mountain Hawks will return to action at Sacred Heart on Tuesday night to battle the Pioneers. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm from Fairfield, CT. For more information, contact
