Fairfield, CT – Lehigh used an 18-point effort from sophomore Carli Toliver to catapult the Mountain Hawks to a 65-50 win over Sacred Heart (1-1) at the Pitt Center Tuesday night. Lehigh (1-1) earned its first win over Sacred Heart since the 1998-99 season.

Toliver got the offense going, nailing two 3-pointers in the game’s first ten minutes. Junior Cat Nicholson also had a hot hand, finishing the night with 13. Lehigh used the Sacred Heart zone to fire up shots from the outside.

When the Pioneers pressured the wings, the Mountain Hawks turned to junior Anne Tierney in the post. The co-captain finished with 14 points and 8 rebounds on the night. Lehigh was also strong from the free throw line. The Mountain Hawks made 27 free throws on the night in the win.

"I thought we did a much better job defensively tonight," said head coach Sue Troyan following the win. "We forced play on the defensive end a little more tonight and that worked to our advantage."

Leslie Newhard paced the Pioneers, scoring a team high of 14. Kate Maher finished with 10 points in a losing effort.

The Mountain Hawks head to Stabler Arena to host the Christmas City Classic this weekend. Lehigh hosts Elon on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in the first round.
