Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh has named Julie Mazer the new head coach of the Field Hockey program, after conducting a national search. Mazer, who comes to the Mountain Hawks from Roanoke College, succeeds Michelle Finegan as head coach.
As head coach of the Maroons, she guided the team to its first ever Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2002. The team also finished No. 19 in the national rankings. She led the team to the ODAC title game three times during her four years at the school, and produced a pair of All-Americans. Mazer was also the teams head women’s lacrosse coach.
"We are very excited to have Julie as our new coach," Associate Athletic Director Karen Adams said. "She had a very impressive run at Roanoke, winning the conference championship and taking the team to the NCAA championships for the first time in school history. She is very excited to bring a new direction to our program."
During the summer of 2001, Mazer picked up valuable international experience. She served as the US team’s head coach at the Maccabiah Games in Israel, and as the head coach of the team that represented the US at the Arafura Games in Australia.
Prior to coaching at Roanoke, Mazer served as the associate head coach at Swarthmore College for both the field hockey and lacrosse programs. She also worked with the USFHA Futures Program after coaching at Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania.
Mazer played both field hockey and lacrosse collegiately at West Chester University, graduating in 1994. As a senior she was an honorable mention to the USWLA Collegiate All-American team for lacrosse.
