Bethlehem, PA - Lehigh opened its 2003 exhibition season with a convincing 93-73 victoy over the NWBL All-Stars on Saturday night from Stabler Arena. Leading the way offensively for the Mountain Hawks was junior Jessica DePalo with 26 points on 10-19 shooting from the field. DePalo also grabbed 14 rebounds, and dished out an assist.           Playing with two freshmen in the lineup, Lehigh struggled with turnovers, as the Mountain Hawks turned the ball over 39 times, 25 coming in the first half. But, by using a total team effort, with stingy defense and a solid fast break attack, Lehigh was able to come away with the victory. Freshman Sara Ellis scored 17 points in her collegiate debut, including five three-pointers. Fellow frehsman Emily Geosits netted 11 points of her own, including three shots from downtown. Junior Mary Frances Hynoski played a very complete game, as she pumped in 15 points, pulled down seven rebounds, dished out 10 assists and swiped three steals. The leading scorer for the NWBL squad was Betty Johnson with 14 points.
Lehigh will begin its regular season on Friday November 21, from Stabler Arena when the Mountain Hawks play host to Duquesne. Game time is set for 5:30.
