Mountain Hawks fall to Idaho State

Boulder, CO – Idaho State ran out to a 16-4 lead less than five minutes into the game, and Lehigh could never recover as the Mountain Hawks dropped a 95-52 decision to the Bengals in the consolation game of the Coors Classic at the Coors Events Center on Saturday night. The win improves Idaho State to 3-1 on the season, while the Mountain Hawks remain winless at 0-4.
Lehigh shot 41% in the first half, but turned the ball over 11 times as the Bengals built a 50-28 lead at the intermission. Lehigh junior Jessica DePalo paced Lehigh with eight points and four rebounds in the first 20 minutes of play. The Bengals came out gunning once again in the second half, as Idaho State used a 19-6 run at the outset of the second half to put the game away, leading 69-34. On the night, the Bengals shot a blistering 52% from the floor, including nine three pointers. ISU was led by Molly Hays, who scored 24 points on 9-of-11 shooting. She added nine rebounds and three steals in the win. Hays was one of four Bengals in double figures on the night. Christa Brossman scored 17 points, Lindy Whitley added 15 points and six assists, and Heidi Gifford scored 14 points for the victorious Idaho State squad. Merrilee Udy added eight points, dished out ten assists, and did not commit a turnover in the ISU victory. Once again, the Lehigh offensive efforts were led by junior Jessica DePalo. She poured in 18 points on 9-of-18 shooting, while pulling down eight rebounds. For her efforts, DePalo was named to the all-tournament team. Senior Jana Ransom, in just her second game back from injury, chipped in eight points off the bench for the Mountain Hawks. Turnovers continued to be a problem for Lehigh Saturday, as the Mountain Hawks gave the basketball away 22 times – an improvement of nine from the night before. The 22 Lehigh turnovers Saturday led to 32 Bengals points. The Mountain Hawks were also out-rebounded by a 42-37 margin. Lehigh will seek its first win of the season on Wednesday, when the Mountain Hawks visit Princeton. Tip-off is set for 7:00 from Jadwin Gym.
