Bethlehem, PA - Lehigh hosted a three-school scrimmage on October 18, which featured the Mountain Hawks, Drexel and Fairfield. The tournament featured a round-robin style tournament, with each team playing each other once. Overall, the tournament went very well, and was a success in terms of gaining experience, and seeing how preseason conditioning and practice has paid off. Lehigh and Drexel played a very tight match, as both teams are evenly matched as far as athleticism, size and in terms of experience. Although no official score was kept, the two teams went back and forth scoring goals, and eventually finished in a tie.
Fairfield was a little stronger and older of a team than both Lehigh and Drexel. In the Mountain Hawks match with the Stags, Lehigh had to match the physical nature put forth by Fairfield, but in the end, the Stags were able to pull it out and come away with the victory. According to Head Coach Chris Wakley, “The team play looked pretty good. The defense played really well as did our offense. We are coming along nicely on both ends of the field, although we are still young, we are very happy to see some of the older guys starting to step up. The guys are very excited for the season after they saw some things come together in the tournament. That being said, we still have a lot of work to do.”
Lehigh opens its regular season in the spring on Saturday, February 21, when the Mountain Hawks play host to Delaware from the Ulrich Sports Complex. Game time is set for 1:00.
