The early 1900s represented some of the most successful years in men's lacrosse at Lehigh. Part of the reason was due to the superb play of Judge H. Victor Schwimmer. A goaltender, he was one of the greatest to play the position in Lehigh history.

Schwimmer never experienced a losing season. He started and finished all 24 games the Brown and White played in his three varsity seasons.19283

Perhaps this excerpt from the Bethlehem Globe-Times in 1924 helps to convey what an exceptional goaltender Schwimmer was.

“There was one individual who stood out above any other...that player was Vic Schwimmer... whose sensational work in goal was possibly the greatest ever witnessed on a Lehigh field.”

Schwimmer was an Honorable Mention All-American lacrosse goalie as both a junior and senior. As a sophomore, he averaged a shutout every third game against collegiate opponents including a remarkable whitewash of mighty Maryland. He led Lehigh to a second place finish in the tough Southern Division of the United States Lacrosse League.

In both the 1924 and 1925 seasons, Schwimmer held the opposition to one goal in three games including a 9-0 wipeout out of archrival Lafayette.

Upon graduation from Lehigh, Schwimmer attended the St. John's University School of Law and went on to become a lawyer and judge.

His love for sports continued. In 1954, he became only the second American to serve as umpire on the center court, before the King and Queen of England, in the history of the All-England Tennis Championships held annually at Wimbledon. He also served as Vice President and President (three terms) of the Lehigh Club of New York.
