Brendan Callahan is in his seventh season with the Mountain Hawks as an assistant coach. Callahan came to Lehigh following a very successful career at Stony Brook University.

In his first season as defensive coordinator, Callahan led the unit to new heights in 2012. Each one of Lehigh’s close defensemen was named All-Patriot League: Ty Souders (First Team), Mike Noone (Second Team) and Lukas Mikelinich (Second Team) while freshman Matt Poillon became Lehigh’s first-ever Patriot League Goalie of the Year. The Mountain Hawks finished with the nation’s #2 scoring defense (only behind Notre Dame), holding opponents to only 6.61 goals per game. Lehigh tallied its first shutout in 40 years with a 13-0 triumph over Manhattan, allowed only two goals to VMI and five or fewer to Penn State, Navy, Holy Cross, Penn and Saint Joseph’s. The squad extended its shutout streak to an incredible 90:14 before the Quakers scored with 5:04 remaining in the second quarter. The streak spanned from the fourth quarter against Villanova, through the entire Manhattan contest and the first 24:56 at Penn.
Callahan helped guide Lehigh to a school-record 14 wins, a program record nine-game winning streak and its highest-ever national ranking (#4) along with its first Patriot League Tournament Title and NCAA Tournament appearance.

The Mountain Hawks followed in 2013 by finishing sixth nationally in scoring defense (7.94 goals per game) with Poillon earning Goalie of the Year honors for a second straight season. Noone and Souders also garnered All-League honors for the second year in a row while both garnering honorable mention All-America recognition. Lehigh held Saint Joseph’s to only one goal, VMI to only two, Holy Cross, Lafayette and Bucknell to five and Army, UMass and Penn to just six goals apiece. One of the most dominant performances came in the Patriot League Championship game as the Mountain Hawks won 11-5 for their second straight league title and NCAA Tournament berth.
In 2010, Callahan helped lead the Mountain Hawks to eight wins, their most since 2006. He also worked with a defense and man-down unit that ranked ninth nationally.
At Stony Brook, Callahan served as captain of the Seawolves in 2007 and garnered Second-Team All-America East laurels as a goaltender. He was also selected for the North/South All-Star Game, was named the team MVP and led the America East in save percentage. A member of the 2007 America East All-Academic Team, Callahan was an All-Rookie Team selection in 2004 as well as an STX/USILA All-American after leading the nation in save percentage and goals against average.
Off the field, Callahan was involved in a number of activities, including the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the Inter-Collegiate Athletic Board and he was selected by the NCAA to represent Stony Brook at the 2005 NCAA Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida.
A native of Hanover, Maryland, Callahan graduated from Gonzaga High School in Washington, D.C. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Stony Brook in Health Care Management in the spring of 2007 and later earned his master’s degree in Education from Lehigh. Callahan resides in Bethlehem with his wife Jen and son Mac.
