Christa Coppus enters her season on the Lehigh softball coaching staff. Coppus will oversee the Mountain Hawks offense – including hitting, bunting and baserunning – in practice, and in games. She will also assist with recruiting, strength and speed training and the day-to-day operation of the program.
Coppus comes to Lehigh after spending the 2010 season as a volunteer assistant coach at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She was responsible for many of the day-to-day operations in the softball office and also assisted the Flames in practice and game-day preparation.
A four-time All-Horizon League shortstop at Cleveland State, Coppus graduated as the Vikings career leader in hits, doubles and runs batted in. Coppus batted .325 as a senior with 38 RBI and helped lead Cleveland State to a Horizon League title and NCAA regional berth. Not only did Coppus excel on the field for the Vikings, but she was involved in numerous community service efforts off of it and as a result was named Cleveland State’s Woman of the Year in 2009.
Coppus earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Cleveland State in 2009. She is seeking her master’s in communication with a concentration in gender and women’s studies at Illinois-Chicago.
