Winter Break – December 29
Now that the fall season is over, we are beginning our winter training for our spring season that starts in March. The fall season ended pretty well with our home tournament at Saucon Valley. While we did not perform as well as we would have liked, it was still a great ending tournament since the whole team played. Since all ten of us were playing, it was truly a team bonding experience because all of our scores counted instead of just five. This was really the first time that everyone was playing together and it was a great experience. Because of this, the season ended on a high note.
To prepare for the spring season, we are holding team workouts and will use our new practice facility to hit balls and putt. While practices aren’t as intense as during the season, they are a great warm-up for spring break. The kick-off of the spring season starts with our spring break trip in which we have more intense practices and then at the end of the week play in a tournament against other colleges. This year the team is traveling to Orlando to practice and then play in a tournament withFlorida schools.
The little break that we have during the winter has been really helpful because I am in the midst of applying to grad schools and looking for jobs. I am pretty sure that I want to continue with school, but I want to look for jobs to keep my options open. The team has been extremely supportive of my goals, because at times I’ve had to put school first. Hopefully by the middle of the spring semester I will know what I will be doing after graduation.
While I do have one more season left before graduation, I know that I will miss competing and the team. With each year the program has grown so much and I know it will continue to get better. It’s been great to see how far the team has gone and knowing that I am a part of it. All of the seniors, Yvonne, Webb, Tiina, and I, have put in a lot of time to the team and it’s great to see that we’re finally getting somewhere. Hopefully in the spring we can really prove ourselves and reach the level of play that we all want.

Season is in full swing – September 28
The golf season is off to a good start with a win at Kutztown three weeks ago. While this was just an opening tournament with not as much competition, it was still nice to have a win. Last week at Princeton was our first real tournament and test of our ability. We finished seventh overall and 18 teams played. It seems like a pretty good finish for someone just glancing at the scores, but in reality we all know we could have played better. It gets difficult being on the road so much and missing school especially when the first tournament is right before 4 o’clocks.
The team is really starting to bond now that we are on the road and will be for the next four weeks. Since we all have different schedules, we do not always get a chance to practice together so hanging out on the weekends has been very enjoyable.
This weekend we are at Yale and we are hoping to do better in the tournament. We have some big competition and would like to show everyone how much we have improved. The new recruits have been a great addition to the team and have really helped us lower our scores. Even though we all are under a lot of pressure to study for tests, I still think that we can shoot a good score this weekend. The golf course at Yale is ranked the No. 1 collegiate course in the country and is very difficult, so playing well here would mean a lot.

August 23 - School year set to begin
Its a few days before school starts and tryouts. The team this year is going to be much more competitive. We have two incoming freshmen and a sophomore transfer that are going to be huge contributors to the team. We also have all of our traveling team from last year returning. Since the level of play this year will be much higher, we have great expectations for this season.
Last year was a big turnaround for the golf team as we did much better in our tournaments against the Ivy League schools, Bucknell, Georgetown, and other east coast schools. As a senior, it’s been really exciting to see how the team has progressed since I was a freshman. I can’t wait to see what this year will bring and I have a lot of confidence that we will be a big threat to schools that would normally not worry about us. Our first tournament is not until September 22 at Princeton, so we will be practicing hard until then.
