Lehigh Takes Local Clash Against DeSales, 13-0

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Lehigh used a six-run third inning to break open a 2-0 game as the Mountain Hawks defeated local foe DeSales 13-0 in five innings Wednesday evening at McGettigan Park. The Mountain Hawks recorded 14 hits, led by a 3-for-4 showing from sophomore Lizzie Kern. Sophomore Kelly Fricker led off the game with a home run and delivered a team-leading three RBIs.

Senior Chloe Hess and first-year Addison Moorman combined on a one-hit shutout as Lehigh improves to 21-18 on the season.

Fricker's team-leading fifth home run of the season put Lehigh in front one batter into the game. She picked up a second RBI on a fielder's choice ground out in the second inning to give the Mountain Hawks a 2-0 lead.

The six-run third that broke the game open saw all six runs scored with two outs in the frame. Kern tripled to deep center scoring junior Holly Lovett and then scored on a single by senior Abbey Tabaka to put Lehigh up 4-0. A DeSales error prolonged the inning, with sophomore Helen Woloshyn driving in two more with a double and then Fricker and junior Peyton Sward adding RBI hits.

Lehigh was kept off the scoreboard in the fourth inning, but added five more runs in the fifth. Sward and senior Crysta Duenas delivered RBI singles, Lovett singled home two more runs and Kern capped the inning with an RBI double.

Hess allowed one hit over the first three innings, with three strikeouts. Moorman followed by retiring all six batters she faced, including four via strikeouts.

In addition to Kern and Fricker, Sward, Tabaka and Woloshyn all recorded multiple hits. Lovett, Tabaka, Woloshyn and first-year Kyra Neiswender all scored two runs in Wednesday's game.

The Mountain Hawks resume Patriot League play with a three-game series at Army West Point. Lehigh and Army will play a doubleheader Saturday and a single game Sunday with action beginning at noon both days.
