GREENSBORO, N.C. – In its final game of the UNCG Tournament, Lehigh fell 5-2 to host UNC Greensboro Sunday morning. A first-inning three-run home run by Laney Deane proved to be the difference. Lehigh threatened in the seventh but ultimately came up three runs short.
Lehigh falls to 14-11 on the season. UNC Greensboro improves to 18-12.
Deane's home run off first-year Addison Moorman give the Spartans an early lead. Macy Michael added a solo home run in the third to put UNCG up 4-0.
The Mountain Hawks scored their first run in the fifth inning as first-year Maia D'Amico scored on a throwing error after senior Sydney Parlett beat out a double play bal.
UNCG's lead grew back to four in the sixth after a sacrifice fly off the bat of Rylie Williams.
Lehigh put the first two runners on in the seventh but a leaping grab on a hard line drive by sophomore Helen Woloshyn turned into a double play. Two batters later Parlett singled home sophomore Wrigley Fanter to cut the deficit to 5-2, but Nadia Andarowski got first-year Kyra Neiswender to pop out to end the game.
Both teams had five hits on the day. Sophomore Kelly Fricker led Lehigh with two hits.
Moorman went the first three innings in the circle allowing four runs on four hits. First-year Maddie Masiko allowed one run on one hit over three innings of relief.
The Mountain Hawks are back in action Wednesday at Penn before opening their home schedule and league schedule next weekend versus Colgate at Leadership Park.
