Lehigh Earns Handful of Top-Ten Finishes at Fastrack National Invite

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.- Lehigh's men's track and field team competed at the Fastrack National Invite on Friday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island.
The Mountain Hawks had athletes in three of the invitational events, earning top ten placements in each of them. In the invitational 5000 meter run, Lehigh had two top ten finishers who shattered their personal records by over thirty seconds. Senior Connor Malinger placed third overall running 15:03.07, a 31-second improvement, and junior Derek Coceano finished eighth at 15:11.38, a 33-second lowering of his previous best. Sophomore Jaden Ferguson placed seventh in the invitational high jump, leaping 1.95 meters. Konstantinos Panagopoulos jumped 6.73 meters in the invitational long jump, placing him in tenth.
Lehigh had a handful of top ten placements in the open division, including two event wins. The first Mountain Hawk win came in the 3000 meter run. Senior Henry Burd ran a personal record time of 8.44.70 en route to his first collegiate win. A Lehigh athlete won the second heat of this event as well. First-year Sawyer Macy won his heat in 8:51.52, giving him sixth place overall. Lehigh's second win came in the pole vault, as sophomore Sayyidakbar Akbarov clearned 4.70 meters to claim victory. This jump was a new personal record, which landed him at ninth on Lehigh's all-time indoor performance list. He now sits tied with teammate Eli Johnson, who placed fourth in this competition. The junior jumped 4.55 meters. The remaining individual top ten finishes at the meet was in the 60 meter hurdles. Junior Andrew Clark placed fourth with a 8.87-second race, and sophomore Neves Hoose ran 8.98 to place seventh. Hoose was Lehigh's top placing athlete in the long jump, as he soared 6.08 meters to place 15th.
Junior Eddie Moore continued his improvement in the 200 this season, setting a new personal record. He ran 22.17 to finish 18th, which moved him up to fourth on the all-time performance list.
Senior Alex Heideman was Lehigh's top runner in the mile, running 4:23.23 and slotting in at 15th place.
Lehigh had a pair of team-leading 29th place finishes in the 800 and 400 meter dashes. Sophomore Isaac Greene placed 29th in a field of 82 in the 800, running 1:58.92. Junior Aidan LaTourette competed in the 400 for the first time in his college career, running 50.96 to place 29th of 132.
The meet concluded with the relays, where Lehigh squads earned two top ten placements. The Mountain Hawks first took bronze in the distance medley relay, where Greene, Thomas Arnold, Peter Priestner, and Danny Walter ran 10:40.08. Lehigh placed ninth in the 4x400 meter relay. The team of Moore, LaTourette, Clark, and Heidemann ran 3:24.60.
Lehigh's throwers compete tomorrow at the Frank Colden Invitational, while the entire team is back in action next weekend at the Widener Indoor Classic.
