WORCESTER, Mass. – First-years Kelly Fricker and Helen Woloshyn both recorded two hits as the Lehigh softball team completed a three-game sweep of Holy Cross with a 4-2 victory Sunday at Freshmen Field. The Mountain Hawks scored a run in the first inning and two in the second and first-year Madison Finnerty carried a shutout into the sixth inning.
Â
Sunday's win moves Lehigh to 23-20 overall and 11-4 in the Patriot League.
Â
Fricker led off the game with a double down the right field line and eventually scored the game's first run on a fielder's choice by senior Maddy Schmeiser. In the second, Fricker singled up the middle to plate junior Sydney Parlett, who reached on an error. Senior Julia Mrochko added a sacrifice fly, scoring Woloshyn to give the Mountain Hawks a 3-0 lead.
Holy Cross (7-30, 1-11 PL) put together its first major threat in the third, loading the bases with two out, but Woloshyn ranged into left center to make a diving catch on Callie Thibault's fly ball to keep the Crusaders off the board.
Lehigh added another unearned run in the fourth as Fricker drew a one-out walk and came around to score when senior Rory Dudley reached on an error.
Â
The Crusaders finally broke through in the sixth taking advantage of a leadoff single, a walk and catcher's interference to load the bases. A bases-loaded walk and a run-scoring fielder's choice made the score 4-2. Junior Chloe Hess got Kate Trudgen to ground out to second to limit the damage to two runs.
Â
Hess recorded three fly ball outs in the seventh to secure the save.
Â
Finnerty allowed two runs on five hits over five-plus innings. She walked four and did not record a strikeout. Hess walked one and was not charged with any runs in two innings of relief.
Â
Lehigh finished with five hits, with Schmeiser recording the other single.
Â
The Mountain Hawks will visit Saint Joseph's Wednesday at 4 p.m. before hosting Boston University next weekend to close out the Patriot League regular season.

ÂIt's Sunday, so Helen Woloshyn is making run-saving diving catches in the outfield.
