
Mountain Hawks Split Sunday Doubleheader At Colgate

First-year Kelly Fricker went 5-for-7 with three walks across the two games and drove in five runs in the game one victory. Senior Julia Mrochko totaled six hits, including three doubles, and had a 4-for-5, three-RBI performance in game two.

Sunday's split leaves Lehigh at 20-20 overall and 8-4 in Patriot League play. Three of Lehigh's four league losses have come by one run in eight innings.

Fricker led off game one with a single and scored the game's first run on a sacrifice fly by senior Rory Dudley.

Colgate tied the game on an Amanda Desantis infield single in the second before Lehigh broke the game open with three runs in the fourth and four in the fifth.

The Mountain Hawks took the lead on an error on a fly ball to center field hit by sophomore Holly Lovett. Two batters later, Fricker singled home two more runs to give Lehigh a 4-1 lead.

In the fifth, Lovett singled home senior Lindsey Martin before Fricker cleared the bases with a three-run double to left center.

Jillian Herbst doubled to left center to pull a run back for Colgate in the home fifth before Martin capped the scoring with a sixth-inning single that scored junior Crysta Duenas.

Junior Chloe Hess started in the circle and allowed two runs on six hits over five innings with two walks and four strikeouts. Senior Maria Urban closed the game with two scoreless innings of relief.

Lehigh had 12 hits in game one, with Fricker going 3-for-3 with two walks. Sophomore Peyton Sward also had three hits, while Mrochko had a pair of doubles.

In game two, Mrochko staked Lehigh to a 2-0 lead in the third inning with a two-run double to right center and then scored Lehigh's third run on a single by Dudley.

The Raiders responded with a five-run third inning to take a 5-3 lead. Analisa Raffaelli tied the game with a three-run home run to left field. A Mia Cascio sacrifice fly and then a wild pitch brought home the runs to put Colgate up by two after three innings of play.

Raffaelli's second home run of the game put Colgate up 6-3 in the fourth inning.

Lehigh put together a two-out rally in the sixth, with RBI singles by first-year Helen Woloshyn and Mrochko brining the Mountain Hawks within 6-5.

The Mountain Hawks put the first two runners on base in the seventh. A Sward sacrifice moved the runners into scoring position. Lovett grounded out to third for the second out. First-year Wrigley Fanter then drilled a two-run double to left center, giving the Mountain Hawks a 7-6 lead.

Colgate tied the game at 7-7 when Mia Edwards came in to score after an errant Lehigh throw after a force out.

In the eighth, Lehigh loaded the bases with two out and pushed a run across as Mrochko scored when Sward beat a force play attempt at second base on a ball hit by Lovett.

A pair of one-out hits for Colgate but the tying and winning runs aboard. Hess got a ground ball back to the circle for the second out, but Cascio singled through the left side scoring two runs to give Colgate the walk-off win.

Lehigh had 15 hits but left 13 runners on base. Along with Mrochko's 4-for-5 showing, Fricker, Lovett and senior Maddy Schmeiser all had multiple hits.

Urban started in the circe and allowed four runs on four hits in two-plus innings. First-year Madison Finnerty went the next four before giving way to Hess who went the final 1.2. Lehigh pitchers were hurt by eight walks compared to just four strikeouts.
Colgate is now 13-26 overall and 3-6 in league play.

The Mountain Hawks will host Monmouth in non-league action Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. on Pride Day, presented by Lehigh's Pride Center and Office of Inclusive Excellence and Belonging. Lehigh will resume league play next weekend with three games at Holy Cross.
