Mountain Hawks Close Liberty Invitational With 10-8 Victory Over Drexel

Senior Maddy Schmeiser had three of Lehigh's 16 hits while classmate Rory Dudley went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, including a two-run double in the third inning that put the Mountain Hawks ahead for good.
Lehigh finished 2-3 at the Liberty Invitational and is now 4-11 on the season.
In the top of the first, senior Julia Mrochko singled home first-year Helen Woloshyn to give Lehigh a 1-0 lead. Senior Lindsey Martin drew a bases-loaded walk to put Lehigh up two before Dudley capped the four-run frame with a two-run single to left.
Drexel (0-15) answered with four runs of its own in the first on an error, a two-run double by Macie Bergmann and a single by Annabelle Smink.
Dudley delivered a two-run double to left center with one out in the third to give Lehigh a 6-4 lead. Lehigh tacked on two more in the fourth as Mrochko doubled home sophomore Peyton Sward and then Schmeiser singled home Mrochko. An RBI double for first-year Kelly Fricker in the fifth put Lehigh up 9-4.
The Dragons rallied in the bottom of the sixth, plating four runs to get within 9-8. Zoe Krizan hit a two-run home run, Lana Mooney added an RBI triple and Lily Meuninck hit a sacrifice fly to pull Drexel within a run. Sophomore Maddy Clark came on in relief of first-year Madison Finnerty to get the final two outs of the sixth.
Sward drew a walk to lead off the seventh, moved into scoring position on a ground out, and scored Lehigh's 10th run on a pinch-hit single through the left side by junior Abbey Tabaka.
Clark set Drexel down in order in the seventh to secure Lehigh's second win of the weekend.
Sward, Fricker, Mrochko and junior Sydney Parlett all joined Schmeiser and Dudley with multi-hit games. Mrochko and Schmeiser scored twice, while Sward scored three runs.
Finnerty allowed eight runs on 12 hits over 5.1 innings and struck out two to earn the victory. Clark allowed one hit over 1.2 innings of work to record the save.
Next weekend, Lehigh will open up Spring Break at the FGCU Spring Break Classic in Fort Myers, Fla. The Mountain Hawks will open the tournament Saturday against Columbia (4 p.m.) and Toledo (6:30 p.m.).
