Lehigh Closes UMBC Round Robin With 4-2 Victory Over Canisius

BALTIMORE – The Lehigh softball team closed out the UMBC Round Robin with a 4-2 victory over Canisius Sunday at the Diamond at UMBC.

Senior Rory Dudley homered and drove in three runs to support junior Chloe Hess who carried a shutout into the seventh inning to earn her fifth victory of the season.

Lehigh improves to 11-14 on the season.

The Mountain Hawks opened the second with two runs in the second on a sacrifice fly by Dudley and then first-year Lizzie Kern scored on an error.

Dudley launched a two-run home run to left center, her second in as many days and third of the season, to give Lehigh a 4-0 lead after three inning.

Bailey Alatorre broke up Hess' shutout but with a leadoff home run in the seventh and the Golden Griffins added an unearned run, but with the tying runs on base, Hess got Sofia Escoto to fly out to center field to end the game.

Hess allowed two runs (one earned) on eight hits over seven innings. She struck out five and issued just one walk.

Lehigh registered five hits, coming from five different players.

The Mountain Hawks will open their home schedule on Wednesday when they welcome Penn to Leadership Park with game time set for 3:30 p.m.
