Mountain Hawks Compete At Widener Indoor Classic In Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA – The Lehigh men's track and field team competed at the two-day Widener Indoor Classic, which wrapped up Saturday at Penn's Ott Center. Action began with the throws Friday on Widener's campus. Highlights for the Mountain Hawks included a pair of event wins and runner-up finishes in addition to a number of personal records.
 
THROWS
Senior Liam Lovering led the way for Lehigh in both the shot put and the weight throw. Lovering took third in the shot put with a mark of 15.57m and fifth in the weight throw with an effort of 16.61m. Junior Joseph Nowakowski also posted a top five finish in the shot put, with a throw of 15.08m. Senior Ethan McHugh was second among Lehigh athletes in the weight throw, finishing 11th with a toss of 14.51m.
 
JUMPS
First-year Jaden Ferguson won the long jump with a leap of 7.11m to move into eighth place all-time at Lehigh. Ferguson also finished third in the high jump, clearing a personal-best 1.98m. Senior Skyler Mott won the high jump, clearing 2.03m. Junior Daniel Givens led Lehigh in the triple jump, finishing seventh with a season-best effort of 13.71m. Sophomore Eli Johnson cleared a personal-best 4.55m in the pole vault to finish in fifth place.
 
MID-DISTANCE/DISTANCE
Lehigh had a pair of runner-up finishes in the middle distance and distance events. First-year Ian Zalewski finished second in the mile, with a time of 4:16.98. Senior Aidan Lynch was second in the 3000 meters with a season-best time of 8:30.75. Behind Lynch, first-year Ben Connell (8:38.83) and junior Dan Malatesta (8:46.07) turned in PRs. Sophomore Dylan Cunningham led Lehigh in the 5000 meters, finishing 10th with a PR of 15:08.08. First-year Peter Priestner was the top Lehigh finisher in the 800 meters, claiming ninth place in 1:56.64.
 
SPRINTS
Lehigh had a pair of finalists in the 60 meter hurdles, with senior Jonathan Bennett finishing sixth with a finals time of 8.37 seconds. Sophomore Nathan Oliphant finished eighth and had his better time in the preliminaries (8.46). First-year Jaden Green made his debut in the 60 meter dash, finishing 14th with a time of 7.07. Senior Patrez Thomas led a large Lehigh contingent in the 200 meters, finishing 10th with a season-best time of 22.36. Thomas also led Lehigh in the 400 meters, finishing 15th in 50.41.
 
Lehigh's 4x400m relay team closed the meet with a fourth place finish in 3:22.03.
 
The Mountain Hawks will be back in action Friday at the Bucknell Tune-Up, the final meet before the Patriot League Championships, March 1-2 in Annapolis, Md.
