Four Finish in Double Figures For Mountain Hawks in Home Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Four players scored in double figures, but the Lehigh women's basketball team fell to visiting La Salle 81-70 Tuesday night in the Mountain Hawks' home opener at Stabler Arena. Lehigh led 39-38 at halftime but the visiting Explorers outscored the Mountain Hawks 28-12 in the third quarter to take control of the contest.

Junior Jessie Ozzauto led the four Mountain Hawks in double figures with 17 points. Classmate Whitney Lind added 16 and sophomore Belle Bramer and first-year Leia Edwards both contributed 14.

La Salle (3-0) had Aryss Macktoon (24 points), Ashleigh Connor (22) and Joan Quinn (20) all hit the 20-point mark while combining for 66 of the Explorers' 81 points.

Prior to tip off, Lehigh celebrated its 2024-25 Patriot League championship with the formal unveiling of its championship and NCAA Tournament banners.

First-year Alana Reddy made her first two collegiate field goals in the first quarter and both were 3-pointers, the second of which gave Lehigh a 19-17 lead after one quarter.
Lind twice scored baskets in the second quarter, giving Lehigh a six-point lead. Edwards made a layup with 1:36 left before halftime to give the Mountain Hawks a 36-30 advantage. La Salle closed the half on an 8-3 run to cut Lehigh's lead to one at the break.

The third quarter saw La Salle shoot 53 percent from the field, while the Explorers limited Lehigh to 4-of-12 from the field and 0-of-6 from deep. La Salle led 66-51 after three.

Lehigh battled back in the fourth quarter as the Mountain Hawks outscored the Explorers over the final 10 minutes. The Mountain Hawks crept within nine on a Bramer layup with 2:33 to play and then got within six in the final 30 seconds after an Ozzauto 3-pointer. La Salle closed the game out making five of six free throws in the final seconds.
The Mountain Hawks shot 43.6 percent from the field for the game and 33 percent from deep. Lehigh was hurt by 21 turnovers.

Lind led Lehigh with a career-high 10 rebounds for her first career double-double. She also made 10-of-12 free throws for the second time in three games.

Bramer had four steals to lead the Mountain Hawks, while Lehigh assisted on 15 of its 24 made field goals.

La Salle shot 49 percent from the field and was 7-of-12 on 3-pointers. The Explorers held a 36-28 rebounding advantage and had 12 offensive boards.

The Mountain Hawks (1-2) continue their three-game homestand Saturday when they host defending America East champion Verrmont at 1 p.m.
