BALTIMORE - Lehigh women's swimming and diving dove into the season on Saturday afternoon against Loyola and American. The Mountain Hawks beat American 176-122, but fell to the Greyhounds 190-110.

Senior Mairin Ludwig picked up right where she left off last year with a trio of top two individual finishes. She started off her day winning the 200-yard freestyle, swimming 1:52.22. Ludwig followed that up in the 500-yard freestyle, where she won the event with a time of 5:02.60. In the 200-yard individual medley she was a mere hundredth of a second off of her third win of the day, but 2:06.92 only managed her second place. Ludwig was not the only Mountain Hawk to show out in that event. Junior Eliza Meth (2:11.58), first-year Eliza Johnson (2:12.19), and sophomore Clara Moschella (2:12.64) all finished within a about a second of each other to finish fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively.

Johnson wasn't done there, securing second place finishes in each of her two other events. In the 100-yard backstroke she just missed the top spot as her time of 57.08 was just .18 seconds off of her first collegiate win. Johnson repeated her silver medal performance in the 200-yard backstroke, swimming 2:06.93. She was narrowly trailed by fellow first years Sophie Perry and Bonnie Zuo. Perry finished third in 2:07.57, and Zuo placed fourth with a time of 2:07.85.

Genevieve Cody was another first-year who started her career out with a bang. She first placed third in the 50-yard freestyle. Cody and fellow first-year Gigi Michaels (fourth) went back-to-back, finishing in 24.16 and 24.51. Cody one-upped herself over the 100-yard freestyle, taking the win with a time of 52.10.

Senior Caitlin Deitch had a pair of podium finishes in the butterfly events. Deitch placed second in the 200-yard race, finishing in 2:06.15, and swam 57.52 to place third over 100-yards.

Claire Coughlin started her sophomore year off with a new personal best. She swam 10:40.61 in the 1000-yard freestyle, missing the podium by only one-tenth of a second. Zoe Davies also had a good start to her sophomore year, placing fifth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.39).

In the 200-yard breaststroke, the Mountain Hawks had two top finishers. First-year Emma Gyorkos started off her collegiate career with a third place finish of 2:26.96, and Meth swam her way to fourth place with a time of 2:27.78.

Junior Katie Whitaker has herself a good day in the diving events. She won the three-meter dive, scoring 242.10 points. In the one-meter distance she scored 215.15 points, placing fourth.

The meet was bookended by the two relay events, and Lehigh found their way onto the podium for both. The Mountain Hawks started their day placing third over the 400-yard medley. The team of Johnson, Davies, Deitch, and Cody swam 3:51.44. They ended the meet with a second place finish over the 200-yard freestyle. The squad swam 1:36.43 and was filled by Cody, Michaels, Ludwig, and Coughlin.

Lehigh looks ahead to next weekend, where the Mountain Hawks have two separate dual meets at home. The Mountain Hawks first face off against West Chester at 5 p.m. on Friday, followed by Rider at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
