Mountain Hawks Pick Up 2-0 Win Over Fairfield

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Two third quarter goals lifted Lehigh over Fairfield on Sunday at Ulrich Field.

The first half was scoreless between the Stags and Mountain Hawks, as Fairfield outshot Lehigh 7-4 while penalty corners were even at three apiece.

The Mountain Hawks opened the second half strong, earning a penalty corner 18 seconds into the third quarter. Fifth-year Julia Gatelein capitalized on an opportunity back to the injector giving Lehigh a 1-0 lead less than a minute into the half.

Lehigh continued momentum as sophomore Aubrey Ide connected on a reverse shot with 11:39 to play in the third quarter, extending the Mountain Hawk lead to 2-0.

Fairfield pulled its goalkeeper with just over eight minutes to play, leaving an empty net for the remainder of the contest.Â

The Stags out-cornered Lehigh 5-2 in the fourth quarter. On Lehigh's second corner, sophomore Ella Stephenson put a straight shot on the cage leading to a defensive save from Fairfield's Kylie Corcoran.

Senior goalkeeper Jenny Canoni recorded seven saves and a shutout. Fairfield's Payton Rahn made one save in the match.

Lehigh (2-3) opens Patriot League play at 11 a.m. on Saturday versus Colgate at Ulrich Field.
