Mountain Hawks Earn Team, Individual Academic Honors From NFCA

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh softball program was once again well represented as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced its academic awards for the 2023-24 school year. Nine Mountain Hawks earned Division I Scholar-Athlete honors, while Lehigh earned NFCA All-Academic Team status for the 13th time in 19 seasons for its team GPA during the last academic year.

The NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete award is given to a player submitted by a member coach who achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2023-24 academic year. Lehigh's honorees included 2024 graduate students Josie Charles and Emily Cimino, seniors Brooke Cannon and Amanda Greaney, juniors Julia Mrochko and Maria Urban, sophomore Sydney Parlett and first-years Holly Lovett and Peyton Sward.

Cimino was named Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for softball in May and was joined on the Academic All-Patriot League team by Charles, Cannon and Greaney. The trio of Charles, Cimino and Cannon also made the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team. Fifteen Mountain Hawks made the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll for having a GPA > 3.2 during the spring semester.

NCAA Division I had 2,573 honorees from its member institutions, who posted a GPA of 3.50 or higher.

A total of 164 Division I programs received the NFCA All-Academic Team Award, given to programs that boasted a team grade point average of 3.0 or better during the 2023-24 academic year. Lehigh, under the direction of head coach Fran Troyan, posted a 3.47 team GPA last year. Southern Illinois topped Division I with a 3.856 GPA, followed by Radford, Youngstown State, George Mason and Illinois State.

Lehigh finished the 2024 campaign with a 32-20 record with the Mountain Hawks making the championship round of the Patriot League Tournament.
