BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh first-year shortstop Peyton Sward has been named to the NFCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region second team, announced Thursday. The recognition makes Sward the first Lehigh softball student-athlete to earn all-region honors as a first-year since Nicole Yozzo garnered second team accolades in 2015.
The NFCA All-Region teams are voted on by coaches within the region.
Sward started all 52 games at shortstop for the Mountain Hawks in 2024. She led the Mountain Hawks with a .391 batting average, six sacrifices and 12 stolen bases (in 12 attempts), while also ranking in the top three on the team in OPS (.908), runs scored (34), hits (50) and triples (three).
The Florham Park, N.J. native burst onto the scene at the season-opening Aggie Classic at Texas A&M, where she went 8-for-9 with three runs scored and two extra base hits in games against Tulsa, Texas A&M and Valparaiso. That performance earned Sward the first of two Patriot League Rookie of the Week awards this season.
Sward batted .302 with 13 hits and 11 runs scored during the Patriot League regular season and was a second team All-Patriot League honoree.
Last weekend, Sward went 5-for-9 with two runs scored and an RBI as Lehigh reached the championship round of the Patriot League Tournament for the sixth time in the last seven tournaments.
Other season highlights included three three-hit efforts: Feb. 10 vs. Valpo, Mar. 20 at Monmouth and Apr. 21 vs. Lafayette. Sward scored a season-best three runs in the Mar. 20 game at Monmouth.
Sward's selection gives Lehigh at least one NFCA All-Region honoree in four consecutive seasons.
Lehigh finished the 2024 campaign with a 32-20 record that included a school-record 17-game winning streak from Mar. 24 through Apr. 24.
