Young Wins Second Straight Pitcher of the Week Award; Lehigh Heads To Drexel Wednesday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - For the second week in a row, Lehigh softball senior Katelyn Young was named Patriot League Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.Â
Young had another dominating week in the circle for the Mountain Hawks - tossing 14 innings in Lehigh's three game sweep at Bucknell with only one unearned run allowed. She threw a complete game shutout - her second in her last three appearances - in Sunday's first game against the Bison. She gave up 10 hits and two walks while totaling 14 strikeouts over the two outings. Young improved to 6-0 in Patriot League play with a 1.27 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 44 innings of work.Â
First-year Gracie Smith received an honorable mention for her performance last weekend. In the series sweep against the Bison, she went 4-for-12 at the plate, highlighted by a 3-for-5 showing with two runs scored and two RBIs in the series finale. She added an RBI groundout in Sunday's first game and became the eighth Lehigh player this season to reach 10 RBIs.Â
Following the sweep against the Bison, the Mountain Hawks are on a nine game winning streak, extending their overall record to 19-14 and 9-0 in league play.Â
Over this nine game winning streak, Lehigh is out-scoring its opponents 58-14. The Mountain Hawks swept Colgate, Holy Cross, and Bucknell and are hitting .313 during the streak. In the circle, the Mountain Hawks have given up 11 earned runs in 62 innings of work.Â
The Mountain Hawks head to Philadelphia on Wednesday to take on Drexel University (12-17). At the plate, Drexel is led by senior outfielder Grace Abbonizio, who is hitting .427 this season witn 32 hits, four doubles, two home runs and 10 RBIs. Drexel is seventh in the Coastal Athletic Association and is coming off of a weekend series win against Towson University, with the Dragons taking two of three games.Â
Lehigh squares off against Drexel at 3:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on FloSports.Â
Following the Drexel game, Lehigh will visit Marist in a non-league doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.
