Zaia Shoots 71 To Lead Lehigh On Final Day At Rutgers Invitational

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Lehigh women's golf team wrapped up action at the Rutgers Invitational Sunday at the Rutgers University Golf Course. Senior Venecia Zaia led the way with a season-best round of even par 71 Sunday as the Mountain Hawks turned in their best round of the weekend, 304, to finish at 932 (312-316-304).
 
Zaia's final round 71 included three birdies, one bogey and one double bogey. She was the No. 3 finisher among Lehigh players, claiming 33rd place at 236 (83-82-71).
 
On the strength of two Saturday rounds in the 70s, junior Madison Pineda was Lehigh's top finisher, tying for 18th place at 230 (72-75-83). Pineda matched Zaia with three final round birdies.
 
Sophomore Yuki Zhu shot in the 70s in all three rounds, tying for 25th place at 233 (78-77-78).
 
First-year Olivia Lu shot 78 with one birdie on Sunday and tied for 39th place at 239 (79-82-78).
 
Lehigh's second-lowest round Sunday was turned in by first-year Bella Scanapicco, who shot six over par 77 with one birdie – her low round of the season. Scanapicco tied for 52nd place at 246 (86-83-77).
 
Junior Sophie Chang made one birdie in a final round 88 and finished at 267 (93-86-88).
 
Host Rutgers claimed the team title at its own tournament with a final score of 876 (292-294-290). The Scarlet Knights beat runner-up UAlbany by 26 strokes, while Dartmouth finished in third place.
 
Rikke Nordvik of Rutgers was the individual medalist at one over par 214 (69-74-71). She beat Megan Gormley of Georgetown by four strokes.
 
The Mountain Hawks will head to Annapolis, Md., for the Navy Spring Invitational, April 13-14, their final tune-up before the Patriot League Championship at Bucknell April 19-21.
