Pineda Paces Lehigh On Day One At Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – With junior Madison Pineda leading the way, the Lehigh women's golf team completed day one of the Rutgers Invitational Saturday at the Rutgers University Golf Course. Pineda shot one over par 72 in the morning and sits in a tie for third place at five over par 147. Lehigh totaled rounds of 312 and 316 for a 36-hole score of 628. The Mountain Hawks sit in seventh place in a nine-team field.

Pineda was the low Mountain Hawk in both rounds Saturday. She carded three birdies in each round Saturday. In the first round, Pineda shook off a double bogey on her first hole and made two bogeys and 12 pars along with the three birdies in her remaining holes.

Sophomore Yuku Zhu also delivered a pair of rounds in the 70s as she is tied for 21st place at 155 (78-77). Zhu made a pair of birdies Saturday, both of which came in round two.

First-year Olivia Lu is tied for 35th place at 161 (79-82). Lu made one birdie, which came in her next-to-last hole of the day.

Senior Venecia Zaia shot 165 (83-82) through 36 holes and is tied for 48th. Zaia made one birdie in her opening round 83.

First-year Bella Scanapicco shot 169 (86-83), while junior Sophie Chang finished day one at 179 (93-86).

Chang made a birdie in her second round after moving into Lehigh's lineup for the play-six, score-four event. First-year Stefania Fedun was a late scratch for Lehigh.

Host Rutgers leads the nine-team field at 586 (292-294), 12 strokes ahead of second place UAlbany.

Malene Clausen of UAlbany and Rikke Nordvik of Rutgers share the individual lead at one over par 143, four strokes head of Pineda and Katelin Richards of Albany.

The Rutgers Invitational concludes Sunday with the final 18 holes of play. The shotgun start has been pushed back one hour to 9:30 a.m.
