Mountain Hawks Blank Princeton 5-0 To Reach 30 Win Mark

4/30/2024 5:35:00 PM | Softball

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Junior Maria Urban and sophomore Chloe Hess combined on a three-hit shutout and junior Rory Dudley hit her fourth home run of the season as Lehigh shut out Ivy League leaders Princeton 5-0 Tuesday at Leadership Park in the Pride Game, presented by Lehigh University's Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Equity.

The Mountain Hawks scored three runs in the second inning and added two more in the fifth on Dudley's blast to win for the 20th time in their last 21 games. Lehigh improves to 30-15 on the season.

Dudley started Lehigh's third inning rally with a leadoff single. Two batters later first-year Maddy Clark ripped a double to left center, scoring Dudley with the game's first run. Senior Amanda Greaney followed with an RBI double to left to extend Lehigh's lead to 2-0. Graduate student Emily Cimino drew a bases loaded walk to cap the three run frame.
In the fifth, Dudley came up with one on and two out and drilled a rainbow of a home run out to left, extending Lehigh's lead to 5-0. Dudley finished 2-for-2 with a walk. Lehigh had nine hits on the day with Dudley recording the lone multi-hit game.
On the other end, Urban retired the first eight batters she faced and held Princeton without a hit through 3.2 innings. The Tigers (24-14) loaded the bases in the fourth with a pair of two out hits and a walk but Urban got Cate Bade to ground out to second to end the threat.

Hess retired eight of the 10 batters she faced and was aided by Dudley throwing out Allie Goodwin attempting to steal.

The Lehigh pitching duo combined for nine strikeouts, with Urban recording four and Hess five against just two walks.

The Mountain Hawks will close out the regular season this weekend with three games at Boston University. A doubleheader is set for noon on Saturday followed by a single game at noon on Sunday. The winner of the series will earn the No. 1 seed and the right to host the Patriot League Tournament May 9-11.
