BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh first-year infielder Holly Lovett has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. This is the third Rookie of the Week award for Lovett this season, following a 5-for-10 showing at the plate as part of a 3-1 week for the Mountain Hawks.
Â
Lovett's week began with an RBI single in Lehigh's 8-2 victory over Saint Joseph's last Wednesday. She went 4-for-8 at the plate in Lehigh's series win at Army West Point, highlighted by a three-RBI effort in Sunday's rubber game as the Mountain Hawks claimed the series with a 5-3 victory. Lovett drew a bases loaded walk to open the scoring and later delivered a two-run single as Lehigh built a 5-0 lead. The Marlboro, N.J. native successfully handled all of her chances at third base.
Â
For the season, Lovett has moved into third on the Mountain Hawks with a .323 batting average and is tied for second on the team with three home runs and 24 RBIs. She is batting .349 with 11 RBIs during Patriot League play.
Â
Between Lovett and classmates Peyton Sward and Gracie Smith, Lehigh first-years have now won six out of the league's 12 Rookie of the Week awards this season.
Â
The Mountain Hawks (29-15, 14-1 PL) host Princeton on Tuesday before closing out the regular season with three games at Boston University this weekend. Lehigh and BU have both clinched top-two seeds for next week's Patriot League Tournament, with the winner of this weekend's series earning the No. 1 seed and the right to host the tournament May 9-11.
