Sward Named PL Rookie of the Week; Lehigh Hosts Saint Joseph's Wednesday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - First-year Peyton Sward was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.Â
From Florham Park, NJ, Sward hit safely in all four of Lehigh's games last week, going 7-for-11 at the plate including five runs scored. In the Mountain Hawks weekend sweep over rival Lafayette, Sward went 5-for-8 including a 3-for-3 day with two runs scored and a two-RBI triple in Sunday's series finale.
This is the second Rookie of the Week award for Sward, who leads the Mountain Hawks with a .424 batting average this season. She ranks second on the team with 42 hits, 28 runs scored, three triples and nine stolen bases.
Senior Katelyn Young and graduate student Josie Charles earned honorable mention recognition on Tuesday. Young fired her second career no-hitter in Saturday's series opener - her fourth consecutive weekend with a complete-game shutout. In Saturday's no-hit outing, Young faced one batter over the minimum striking out seven.Â
Charles batted .500 over the week, scoring five runs and adding two RBIs. Additionally, she went 5-for-5 at the plate on Saturday's doubleheader - including an RBI triple and four runs scored.
Lehigh (26-14, 12-0) is back at Leadership Park on Wednesday as winners of 16 straight games, which is tied for the nation's second-longest active winning streak . Over the streak, Lehigh is out-scoring its opponents 105-23 and averaging 6.6 runs per game. The Mountain Hawks will host Saint Joseph's in a non-league game with first pitch set for 3:30 p.m.Â
Saint Josephs (19-23) is on a five-game losing streak and is looking to bounce back from a series sweep against Dayton over the weekend.
Kalya Tauber is leading the Hawks offensively, hitting .325 and starting in all 42 games for Saint Josephs this season while three different players lead the team with three home runs.Â
Saint Joseph's leads the all-time series 28-21. Lehigh won last year's meeting 13-3 in Philadelphia with the victory marking No. 900 in head coach Fran Troyan's career.
First pitch is slated for 3:30 PM and can be watched live on ESPN+.Â
Following Wednesday's game Lehigh will return to Patriot League play with three games at Army West Point April 27-28.
