Lehigh Hosts Holy Cross In Second Patriot League Series

3/29/2024 12:04:00 PM | Softball

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh returns to Leadership Park for the second weekend of Patriot League play as the Mountain Hawks host Holy Cross for a three-game series. Saturday will feature a noon doubleheader followed by a noon single game on Sunday. All three games will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Last time out Lehigh defeated Colgate 9-2 on Monday to secure a league-opening sweep. Wednesday's game at Penn was rained out.

The Mountain Hawks (13-14, 3-0 Patriot League) are being led by Freshman Holly Lovett's recent hot stretch. Lovett is batting .327 with 10 runs scored this year and with 15 RBIs - becoming the seventh Lehigh player this season to reach double digits in both categories. Lovett is hitting .464 (13-for-28) over her last 10 games, spanning her back-to-back Patriot League Rookie of the Week awards. She has four doubles, a home run, 11 RBIs, and seven runs scored during that span.

Graduate student Emily Cimino hit safely in all four games for the Mountain Hawks last week, scoring four runs and driving in six. Additionally, she collected her 200th career hit in Sunday's series-opening win over Colgate.

In the circle, senior Katelyn Young picked up two wins and a save in the Colgate series to move to 8-7 on the year.

Lehigh is hitting .318 as a team this season and has used a balanced attack as evidenced by the eight players with 10-plus runs scored and seven with double-digit RBIs. First-year Peyton Sward leads the team with a .388 batting average. Senior Brooke Cannon has scored a team-leading 21 runs, while graduate student Josie Charles has driven in 17 to lead the way.

The Crusaders (7-13) are coming off back-to-back losses against Stonehill on Wednesday. Sophomore outfielder Ali Sniegocki is batting .309 this season on 21 hits with a team-leading three home runs and 12 RBIs. Sophia Roncone and Megan Yurchick have shared the majority of the pitching duties.

This weekend's series marks the first league action for Holy Cross.

Lehigh leads the all-time series 100-20 and has won 13 straight games over Holy Cross.

Following this weekend's series, Lehigh will step out of league play to host Princeton Wednesday in the Pride Game, presented by Lehigh University's Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Equity. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
