Lehigh Completes Three-Game Sweep Of Colgate With 9-2 Win Monday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Junior Julia Mrochko and first-year Holly Lovett both drove in four runs as Lehigh completed a Patriot League-opening series sweep of Colgate with a 9-2 victory Monday afternoon at Leadership Park.
 
Mrochko and Lovett totaled five of Lehigh's 13 hits as Lehigh broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the third and four more in the sixth, as the Mountain Hawks improve to 13-14 overall and 3-0 in Patriot League play.
 
Lehigh opened the scoring in the bottom of the second when Mrochko plated junior Rory Dudley with a sacrifice fly.
 
Colgate (10-18, 0-3 PL) tied the game in the top of the third when Niahm Dougherty homered to left, but the Mountain Hawks took control with a four-run bottom of the third inning.  
Lehigh loaded the bases with one out on an error, a single and a walk before Lovett singled through the right side to bring home two runs. Mrochko followed with a two-run double down the left field line to give the Mountain Hawks a 5-1 lead after three.  
The Raiders pulled a run back in the sixth but Lehigh responded with four runs to establish a seven-run cushion. First-year Grace Smith scored when senior Brooke Cannon reached on an error. Two batters later, Lovett delivered her second two-run single of the game, and Mrochko followed with an RBI single to center to put the Mountain Hawks up 9-2.
 
Lovett was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs and Mrochko was 2-for-3.
 
Senior Katelyn Young went the distance in the circle, allowing two runs on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts. She is now 8-7 on the season.  
Lehigh will play a single game at Penn on Wednesday with game time set for 4 p.m. The Mountain Hawks will be back home next weekend to host Holy Cross for three Patriot League games March 30-31.
