Lehigh Welcomes Colgate To Leadership Park In League, Home-Opening Series

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh softball team will open Patriot League play and its home schedule this weekend when the Mountain Hawks welcome Colgate to Leadership Park for a three-game series. Due to forecasted inclement weather on Saturday, the schedule has changed with the Mountain Hawks and Raiders now set to play a doubleheader Sunday beginning at noon, followed by a single game Monday at 1 p.m.

All three games will be broadcast on ESPN+.

The Mountain Hawks enter league play at 10-14 after a heartbreaking 9-8, eight-inning loss at Monmouth on Wednesday. Lehigh was unable to hold leads of 6-0 and 8-6 as the Hawks scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to win it.

First-year Peyton Sward went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs to lead Lehigh on Wednesday. Sward's .417 batting average is tops for the Mountain Hawks. She is also tied for the team lead with 25 hits and has scored 16 runs while going a perfect 8-for-8 in stolen bases.

Junior Rory Dudley is the reigning Patriot League Player of the Week after going 9-for-20 with eight runs and eight RBIs last week. First-year Holly Lovett added Rookie of the Week honors after registering six hits with three extra base hits and five RBIs in last week's action.

Lehigh is hitting .308 as a team and has six players with 10 or more runs scored and six players with 10 or more RBIs.

Senior Katelyn Young leads the pitching staff in wins (six), innings pitched (75.1), ERA (4.27) and strikeouts (54). Sophomore Chloe Hess returned to action at Monmouth with three perfect innings in the circle. Hess was the Patriot League Pitcher and Rookie of the Week following last year's series at Colgate, going 3-0 in the circle and allowing just two runs over 17.1 innings of work.

Colgate enters Patriot League play at 10-15 overall. The Raiders went 2-1 last weekend at the UMBC Invitational, winning their final two games over UMBC and Niagara.

Jillian Herbst is hitting .356 to lead the Raiders, while Kiley Shelton (15 RBIs) and Adrienne Nardone (22 RBIs) have been the top run producers, while also hitting over .300. Bailey Misken and Maya Servedio have handled the majority of the pitching for Colgate and own nine of the Raiders' 10 wins.

Lehigh leads the all-time series against Colgate 92-31 and has won the last six meetings.

Following this weekend's series, Lehigh will travel to Penn for a doubleheader on Wednesday before returning home to host Holy Cross for three Patriot League games March 30-31.
