Lehigh To Open Spring Season Monday In Florida

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's golf team is headed to Florida to kick off the spring season. The Mountain Hawks will play in the 54-hole Atlantic Invitational, Monday-Tuesday at Fountains Country Club in Lake Worth, Fla. The tournament will be the first of five spring events for the Mountain Hawks, culminating in the Patriot League Championship, Apr. 19-21 in Lewisburg, Pa.
Lehigh played four tournaments in the fall season, finishing up with the Lehigh Invitational in late October, where the Mountain Hawks finished eighth out of 16 teams.
Sophomore Yuki Zhu led the way for Lehigh in the fall as the low Mountain Hawk in the final two tournaments, the Red Bandana Intercollegiate and the Lehigh Invitational. Zhu finished no worse than 12th in four tournaments, with a pair of top 10s, tying for second at Saucon Valley Country Club in October. She carded the second lowest round in program history with a 69 in the final round of the Bucknell Invitational in September, where the Mountain Hawks finished fourth out of 11 teams. Lehigh also earned a third place team finish in Delaware State's Hornet Classic at the Creek in mid-September.
Senior Venecia Zaia led Lehigh at the Bucknell Invitational with a seventh place finish, while first-year Stefania Fedun tied for sixth at the Hornet Classic to lead the Mountain Hawks.
The Atlantic Invitational will feature 36 holes Monday followed by 18 holes on Tuesday. Participating teams include Arkansas State, Eastern Michigan, Illinois State, Keiser University, Lehigh, Marshall and Quinnipiac.
Zhu, Fedun and Zaia will all be in Lehigh's lineup along with junior Madison Pineda and first-year Olivia Lu. First-year Bella Scanapicco will compete as an individual.
The remainder of Lehigh's spring schedule features the Georgia State Invitational Mar. 25-26, the Rutgers Invitational Apr. 6-7 and the Navy Spring Invitational Apr. 13-14. Bucknell will host the Patriot League Championship on the third weekend in April.
