BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The 50th annual Paul Short Run is upon us, and Lehigh will once again host one of the largest cross country meets in the U.S. from the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course this weekend. The meet will be broken up into two days this year, with high school races taking place on Friday and college races occurring on Saturday.
Lehigh women's cross country will have runners competing in both the open race at 10:15 a.m. and the gold race at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday morning.
The Mountain Hawks last competed in their annual rivalry dual meet race against Lafayette College, which Lehigh won for a 19th consecutive year. The team earned a perfect score of 15 points in the race, earning each of the top five spots. Senior Maddison Hayes crossed the finish line first, running the 6K in 22:02.2. First-year Kaitlyn Highduch (2nd, 22:06.9), junior Lucy Afanasewicz (3rd, 22:13.1), senior Savanah Beavers (4th, 22;17.6) and sophomore Hope Trimmer (5th, 22:26.2) rounded out the top five for Lehigh.
Lehigh placed 28th out of 44 participating schools in last year's Paul Short Run. Christina Yakaboski finished first for Lehigh in 21:41.1 for a 92nd place finish. Afanasewicz clocked in second for Lehigh in 125th place (21:57.6).
