Brown And White Intrasquad Set For Thursday Night At Grace Hall
10/23/2024 1:23:00 PM | Men's Wrestling
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh wrestling program will host the annual Brown and White Intrasquad, Thursday at 7 p.m. inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. Twelve bouts are tentatively scheduled for the event, which will serve as the public kickoff for the 2024-25 season.
The NCAA's official start date for preseason practice was Oct. 10, but the Mountain Hawks have been working hard throughout the summer and fall. The 2024-25 campaign will officially begin with the Nov. 3 Princeton Open and the Nov. 10 Journeymen Collegiate Classic at nearby Freedom High School. The dual season begins when Lehigh hosts EIWA newcomer Morgan State on Friday, Nov. 15.
Eight of the nine newcomers to the program, officially announced in June, are expected to be in action Thursday evening. There will be two bouts at 125 and 174 and three matches at 165, while 133 and 184 will not have any contested bouts.
"This is a good opportunity for our guys to compete in Grace Hall," Lehigh head coach Pat Santoro said. "It's an opportunity for them to make weight and prepare them for the first competition coming up November 3. There are going to be a lot of new faces out there. I'm just excited to see everyone compete. We've been watching them wrestle each other all summer and fall. It will be good to see them competing in Grace Hall in front of a crowd and with officials."
Both bouts at 125 will feature a true first-year, with Mason Ziegler facing senior Sheldon Seymour and Matty Lopes taking on deferred first-year Logan Wadle.
Four-time NCAA qualifier Malyke Hines will take on first-year Seamus Mack at 141.
Deferred first-year Matt Repos will wrestle at 149 against sophomore Luke Stanich, who will weigh in at 141 after earning All-America honors at 125 a season ago.
A pair of true first-years will square off at 157 with Logan Rozynski facing Jadon Skellenger.
The three bouts at 165 include senior Thayne Lawrence against sophomore Owen Qunn; deferred first-year Zeke Dubler facing senior Max Brignola, a two-time NCAA qualifier who moves up from 157; and true first-year Dom Federici against deferred first-year Richie Grungo.
At 174, deferred first-year Jared Schoppe will face sophomore Liam Gil-Swiger, and junior Keegan Gagnon will face sophomore newcomer Rylan Rogers, a transfer who will make his Lehigh debut.
Sophomores Remy Brancato-Roed (184) and Dontae Hoose (197) will square off, while Nathan Taylor, returning EIWA Champion, will take on true first-year Calvin Lachman at 285.
"Our guys are ready to compete," Santoro said. "They've had enough of practice and are ready to see where they're at so they can keep making adjustments and keep getting better."
