Lehigh Opens Second Half Of League Play With 3-0 Victory At Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Lehigh volleyball team opened up the second half of league play with a 3-0 victory over Holy Cross Saturday at Blaney Gymnasium. The Mountain Hawks hit a blistering .340 for the match, winning the sets by scores of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-10, as Lehigh sweeps the season series from the Crusaders and moves to 12-7 overall and 5-4 in the Patriot League.

Sophomore Jaidyn Garcia led Lehigh with 11 kills and a .333 hitting percentage. Senior Megan Schulte added nine kills, while hitting .391 for the match.

"Our team did a great job today in executing the game plan and staying composed throughout the match," Lehigh head coach Alexa Keckler said. "We got some great offense from Megan and Jaydin, which helped us go on some good runs

"Overall, a great start to our second time through the league schedule."

Lehigh secured the first three points of set one before Holy Cross tightened things up. Tied 21-21 in the opening set, the Mountain Hawks won the final four points of the frame, capitalizing on a service error and then two Garcia kills sandwiched around a kill by sophomore Olivia Lasee to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

Trailing 3-1 early in set two, three kills from Garcia and Schulte sparked a 7-0 run to put the Mountain Hawks in front. Holy Cross battled back to tie the set at 17-17 before Lehigh claimed three consecutive points to go up 20-17. The Crusaders pulled back within one point before Lehigh claimed five of the final six points, including two kills and a block by sophomore Alysia Fingall.

Set three was tied 4-4 early before Lehigh went on to score 21 of the final 27 points. An 8-0 run put Lehigh up 20-8 and the Mountain Hawks again closed out the match by winning five of the final six points.

Lehigh's .340 team attack percentage was highlighted by a .389 first set. The Mountain Hawks held the Crusaders to just .116 for the match.

First-year Kamryn Utley recorded a double-double with 20 assists and 10 digs, while senior Kyleigh Brown led the Mountain Hawks with 16 digs.

Holy Cross (2-16, 0-9 PL) was led by Abbie Lane's 15 kills.

The Mountain Hawks return to action next weekend when they host Bucknell Friday at 7 p.m. before traveling to rival Lafayette for a 4 p.m. match on Sunday.
