
Mountain Hawks Fall To Bucknell

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - An early 4-0 lead for the Bucknell Bison proved to be too much as Lehigh fell 6-2 on Saturday afternoon at Ulrich Field.

Bucknell (8-6, 4-1 PL) jumped out on an early 3-0 lead, including a penalty stroke scored by Lily Neilson in the final two minutes of the first quarter.

The Bison added a fourth goal early in the second quarter, taking a 4-0 lead into intermission.

Lehigh came out in the second half with momentum, decreasing Bucknell's lead to 4-1. First-year Riley Thurston put in the goal off an assist from junior Maddie Noh.

The Mountain Hawks continued their momentum, as fifth-year Julia Gatelein scored a shot from the top of the circle, as Lehigh trailed 4-2 with 12 minutes to play in the third quarter.

With 3:24 remaining in the third, Lehigh's momentum was thwarted by a second goal from Neilson as Bucknell led 5-2 heading into the final quarter.

Late in the fourth quarter, Lehigh pulled its goalkeeper. Bucknell solidified the victory with a final open-net penalty corner goal as the Bison won 6-2.

Bucknell outshot Lehigh 16-4 while holding a slim lead in penalty corners (5-4).

Lehigh's starter Jenny Canoni played 28:57, recording three saves. Sophomore Kate Burgess relieved Canoni, making two saves over 25:54.
