BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After already inking four players to a 2024 signing class that is Lehigh's highest-rated in program history, Howard Talmud '77 head men's tennis coach Craig Schwartz has announced the addition of one more recruit to an impressive group set to join the team next fall. Israeli player Ofer Hacohen will round out Schwartz's group of five incoming first-year student-athletes.
"I am really excited to add Ofer to an already impressive recruiting class," said Schwartz. "He will bring a dynamic work ethic and maturity to our program. His life experiences, including serving in the military, will be invaluable. He will have an immediate impact both academically and athletically. I can't wait to get him on campus to help him achieve his goals and dreams."
Hacohen comes to Lehigh by way of Ga'aton, Israel where he played tennis for Ofek Educational Institution. He accumulated numerous honors and achievements throughout his career, including a number six ranking in the U18 age group in Israel in 2021, a quarterfinal finish in the 2021 Israeli U18 Championship, and wins over four ATP-ranked players in 2023. Hacohen has achieved a career-high ranking of 1524 on the ITF men's singles ranking and a highest ranking of 20 in the Israeli men's rankings.
In addition, Hacohen boasts an impressive academic resume as well, receiving first in class rank for the highest physics and highest math levels
"Playing college tennis has been a long-time aspiration for me, incepting within my mind when I was 15," said Hacohen. "When I stumbled across the opportunity to attend Lehigh, I had no doubt: the remarkable integration of high academic excellence and a competitive, professional tennis team had me enamored. I am certain that the combination between those aspects will provide me with the best runway into success in the modern world, and will propel my progress to become the best version of myself."
Hacohen joins the likes of Rafael Gracie, Victor Imanishi, Nate Raney and Jose Murariu to complete Lehigh's signing class. The announcement comes days before Lehigh's season opener on the road against Penn State on Saturday, February 3.
