ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Lehigh men's soccer dropped a 2-0 decision to Navy men's soccer Saturday afternoon in Annapolis.Â
"I thought we competed well for most of the game," said head coach Dean Koski. "We just ran out of gas. We got home from Colgate at 3 a.m., so it was hard turning around and jumping on a bus to come down to Navy, and it was asking a lot of our guys, but I really appreciated how they worked and competed. Navy had their mid-week game postponed, so they were rested and ready and had more legs than we had."
The Mountain Hawks moved to 2-6-2 (1-3 PL), while the Midshipmen are now 5-4-1 (2-0-1).Â
The Midshipmen broke through in the 28th minute when Andrew Schug found an open Noah Ward.
While Lehigh's defense stood strong for the remainder of the half and into the second half,, the Midshipmen ultimately got the best of them again in the 81st minute when leading scorer David Jackson found the back of the net.
Junior goalkeeper Ryan Gross earned his second start of the season for the Mountain Hawks. Gross recorded a career-high of nine saves. Pierce Holbrook only had to make one save in net for Navy.Â
Navy outshot Lehigh 20-11. Perry Kingson had a team-high of three shots.Â
The Midshipmen had seven corner kicks, while the Mountain Hawks had seven corners.Â
Senior forward Tommy Zipprich recorded his first start for Lehigh. Sophomore defender Sam Davis also started for the first time since Sept. 19.Â
"We certainly played okay," Koski said. "We missed some chances early on and towards the end of the game that might have changed things for us, and now we need to look ahead to next game."
Lehigh will continue its road swing with a matchup against Delaware in Newark, Del,. on Tuesday at 6 p.m.Â
