
Lehigh Prepares to Host 2023 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championship

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Lehigh track and field programs are set to host the 2023 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Goodman Track and Field Complex on Friday and Saturday, May 5-6.

Friday will begin at 9 a.m. with the men's and women's 10,000m races before the men's javelin and women's hammer kick things off for the throws events with the women's javelin and men's hammer taking place after. The first events for the heptathlon and decathlon will start at 10:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. respectively and the men's 110m hurdles at 12 p.m. will restart a full slate of track events for the rest of the day. The first jump events are scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. with the men's pole vault and the men's long jump with the women's events set to follow.

Saturday opens with throws events, beginning with the men's shot put at 9:a.m. and the women will follow as the decathlon and heptathlon events at 9 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. The first jumps event gets underway at 10 a.m. with the men's high jump with the women's high jump to follow at 12:30 p.m. The men's triple jump is set to start at 12 p.m. while the women's triple jump takes place after the men conclude its event. The men's discus is scheduled to begin at 11:45 a.m. and the women's discus will close out the throwing events.

The track events will start at 12:05 p.m. with the men's and women's 3,000m steeplechase with the 4x100m relays taking place after that. At 1:05 p.m., the 1,500m races will run with the finals for the 110m hurdles and the 100m hurdles. The 400m finals will begin at 1:35 p.m. followed by the 100m dash finals before a break takes place. The 800m finals will be the first event after the break, starting at 2:37 p.m. with the 400m hurdles following. The 200m finals and 5,000m finals will take place before the men's and women's 4x400m relays will close out the 2023 Patriot League Championship meet.

Women's Top League Performers
Sprints
Junior Ashley Struck sits in the top 10 in two different events, the 200m dash and the 400m dash, ranking 8th in the 200m with a time of 24.88 and sixth in the 400m with a time of 56.49.

In the hurdle events, seniors Chae Kim and Ashley Griesmeyer rank eighth and ninth respectively in the 100m hurdles. Kim finished the event in 14.76 and Griesmeyer completed the dash in 14.78 seconds. Classmate Lauren Powell is the lone Mountain Hawk in the top 10 in the 400m hurdles, sitting eighth with a time of 1:04.18.

Sophomore Savanah Beavers also is ranked in two different events, currently fifth in the 10,000m race with a time of 36.31.72 and sixth in the steeplechase with a time of 10:58.92. Junior Abigail Tenreiro is also in the top 10 in the 10,000m race with a time of 37:36.10 and junior Lindsay MacLellan ranks ninth in the steeplechase with a mark of 11:07.92

First-year Abigail Klebe holds the top spot in the Patriot League in the 800m race in a time of 2:09.45 seconds while sophomore Lauryn Heskin ranks 10th with a mark of 2:12.74.

First-year Laura Reigle boasts the second-best mark in the league in the pole vault at a height of 4.00m for the Lehigh school record. Sophomore Randi Conroy sits 10th after clearing 3.65m.

Three Mountain Hawks are in the top 10 in the high jump, with senior Calista Marzolino ranking sixth by clearing 1.67m. Sophomore Izabel Fronc and junior Kerry Perna are ninth and tenth respectively, with Fronc clearing 1.62m and Perna reaching 1.61m.

Sophomore Casey Talamini-Kelemen is sixth in the league in the triple jump with a mark of 11.93m with junior Nina Cialone in eighth with a mark of 11.61m. In the long jump, sophomore Lillian Mauger and Keisha Modi are both ranked in the top 10, with Mauger in seventh with a distance of 5.63m while Modi is ninth at 5.57m.

Sophomore Grace Aggen was selected as the Patriot League Athlete of the Week for her performances this past weekend at the Carol and John Covert Classic in Bethlehem and currently ranks second in the league with her mark of 47.69m. Junior Karina Roze is ninth in the javelin with a mark of 38.90m.

Both the 4x400m and the 4x800m relay squads also are in the top five in the Patriot League. The quartet of first-year Grace Kennedy, Mauger, Klebe and Struck finished the 4x400m relay in a time of 3:55.67, which sits fourth in the league while the 4x800m squad of sophomores Riley Morrell, Maddison Hayes and Heskin, and first-year Amber Barrios are third the league with a time of 9:19.84. The 4x100m relay squad of sophomore Stephanie Webb, first-year Gianna Mangili, sophomore Shelby Dejana and Griesmeyer are seventh in the league with a time of 48.03 seconds.

Jumps
Sophomore Skyler Mott holds the top spot in the Patriot League with a mark of 2.06m in the high jump while also sitting sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 13.62m. Classmate Mulenga Malama is 10th in the triple jump with a mark of 13.30m.

Senior Ian Scott, this week's Patriot League Men's Field Athlete of the Week, turned in a second-place finish in the triple jump at the Penn Relays with a distance of 14.60m, just 0.09 meters behind the first-place finisher and now is first in the PL with this mark. Scott is also in the top 10 in the long jump with a leap of 6.95m, which is eighth.
Throws
Lovering has the second-best mark in the Patriot League in the discus with a distance of 54.08m while junior Achilles Mouzakis is seventh in the hammer throw with a mark of 55.01m. Sophomore Greg Stagliano and first-year Wil Jaques are both ranked in the top 10 in the javelin, with Stagliano sitting eighth with a distance of 60.65m and Jaques with a mark of 59.65m.

Sophomore Patrez Thomas is third in the league in the 400m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 53.45 seconds while junior Dan Stipanov is eighth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.90. In the 400m dash, senior Amondo Lemmon is the lone Mountain Hawk ranked, sitting 10th with a time of 48.64 seconds.

Senior Kerem Ayhan and sophomore Kevin Harvey are both in third place in their respective events. Ayhan is third in the 800m race with a time of 1:49.28 while Harvey turned in a time of 29:51.69 in the 10,000m run.

The team of senior Brandtson Duffie, Thomas, Ayhan and sophomore Jack Murphy are fifth in the 4x400m relay while sophomore Ethan Hood, senior Thomas Leitner, and first-years Henry Burd and Max Leffler are at the top of the league in the 4x800m relay with a time of 8:08.22. The 4x100m relay quartet of Lemmon, seniors, Drew Roman and John Siani and first-year Nikolas Cruz are in seventh with a time of 42.69 seconds.
After the conclusion of this weekend's Patriot League Championships, the Mountain Hawks' will prepare for the 2023 IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship hosted by George Mason in Virginia from Friday through Sunday, May 12-14.
