Mountain Hawks Set to Host Carol and John Covert Classic, Compete at Penn Relays

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Lehigh track and field programs are scheduled to host its second of three home meets at the Goodman Track and Field Complex this weekend as the Mountain Hawks host the Carol and John Covert Classic Friday and Saturday, April 28-29 while also competing at the Penn Relays.

Seven other teams will be joining the Mountain Hawks at this year's games: DeSales, Lafayette, Loyola (Md.), Monmouth, Moravian, Muhlenberg and Saint Joseph's.
The Covert Classic will start Friday afternoon with the men's hammer at 3 p.m. with the women to follow. The women's javelin is also set to begin at 3 p.m. with the men's javelin taking place after the conclusion of the women.
Saturday opens with the women's shot put and men's pole vault at 10 am with the men's shot put and women's pole vault to follow. At 11 a.m., the men's long jump followed by the men's triple jump with take place on the west runway. The women's long jump will also begin at 11 with the triple jump taking place on the east runway. The last of the field events will begin around 1 p.m. with the men's and women's high jump. The women's discus will begin after the shot put concludes to wrap up the field events for the day.
Track events will begin at 12 p.m. with the women's and men's 3,000-meter steeplechases, followed by the 4x100-meter relays. The women's and men's 1,500-meter runs will occur at approximately 12:50 p.m. before the women's 100-meter hurdles and the men's 110-meter hurdles at 1:30 and 1:45 p.m.
The 400-meter events will be next and the 100-meter dashes will take place after that. At 2:50 p.m., the participants in the women's and men's 800-meter runs will compete with the 400-meter hurdles taking place right after. The 200-meter dashes follow the 400-meter hurdles and the 5,000-meter races are scheduled to begin at 4:10 p.m. before the 4x400-meter relays. Lehigh will then honor the senior class with a recognition ceremony at the conclusion of the meet, estimated to start at 5:30 pm.

The Mountain Hawks will have two runners competing tonight, Thursday, April 27 with senior Tyler French and sophomore Aidan Lynch running in the 5,000m Championship race, set to begin at 8:15 p.m.
Friday at the Penn Relays will feature a number of relays for the Brown and White, with the group of senior Elena Perez-Segnini, first-year Abby Klebe and juniors Christina Yakaboski and Ashley Struck competing in the women's distance medley relay at 11:55 a.m.
At noon, sophomores Skyler Mott and Liam Lovering are set to take part in the men's high jump and men's discus respectively. Mott is currently ranked first in the Patriot League with a mark of 2.06m that he reached last weekend at the Virginia Challenge while Lovering in fourth in the league with a mark of 51.44m in the discus. The last individual to compete on Friday evening will be senior Ian Scott, who will be taking part in the triple jump.
Both the men's and women's 4x100m squads will race on Friday, with the women running sophomore Stephanie Webb, first-years Gianna Mangili and Grace Kennedy, and senior Ashley Griesmeyer while the men's quartet consists of seniors Drew Roman, John Siani, Amondo Lemmon and Jack Bush.
The Mountain Hawks will then have a team in the men's and women's 4x400m relays, beginning around 7:10 p.m. with the women's team consisting of Webb, Kennedy, sophomore Lillian Mauger and junior Simone Davey while the men will race with Lemmon, senior Brandston Duffie, and sophomores Patrez Thomas and Ethan Hood.
On Saturday, first-year Laura Reigle will be the lone Mountain Hawk competing at the Penn Relays when she competes in the pole vault. Reigle holds the school record with a mark of 4.00m at the Lehigh Games and sits second in the Patriot League with that mark.
Women's Top League Performers
Junior Ashley Struck sits in the top 10 in two different events, the 200m dash and the 400m dash, ranking 8th in the 200m with a time of 24.88 and sixth in the 400m with a time of 56.49.
Klebe holds the top spot in the Patriot League in the 800m race in a time of 2:09.45 seconds while Reigle boasts a second-place mark in the league in the pole vault at a height of 4.00m for the Lehigh school record.
Both the 4x400m and the 4x800m relay squads also are in the top five in the Patriot League. The quartet of Kennedy, Mauger, Klebe and Struck finished the 4x400m relay in a time of 3:55.67, which sits fourth in the league while the 4x800m squad of sophomores Riley Morrell, Maddison Hayes and Lauryn Heskin, and first-year Amber Barrios are at the top of the league with a time of 9:19.84.
Men's Top League Performers
Mott holds the top spot in the Patriot League with a mark of 2.06m in the high jump while also sitting in the top five in the triple jump with a distance of 13.62m. Senior Kerem Ayhan and sophomores Kevin Harvey and Thomas are all in third place in their respective events. Ayhan is third in the 800m race with a time of 1:49.28 while Harvey turned in a time of 29:51.69 in the 10,000m run and Thomas in crossing the finish line in 53.45 seconds in the 400m hurdles.
Lovering has the fourth-best mark in the Patriot League in the discus with a distance of 51.44m with Lehigh's 4x400m and 4x800m relay squads sitting in the top five. The team of Duffie, Thomas, Ayhan and sophomore Jack Murphy are fifth in the 4x400m relay while Hood, senior Thomas Leitner, and first-years Henry Burd and Max Leffler are at the top of the league in the 4x800m relay with a time of 8:08.22.
After the conclusion of this weekend's events, the Mountain Hawks' will prepare to host the 2023 Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Friday and Saturday, May 5-6 at the Goodman Track and Field Complex. The meet will be streamed on ESPN+.
